Em Chamas

Our good friend, Austin came into town on Friday evening. We now have a guest bedroom in our house so Austin was our first guest to sleep in the new bed! For dinner, we went to Em Chamas, a brazilian steakhouse north of KC. The waiters walk around with spears of 15 different kinds of meat and they slice off pieces for you if you want it. The boys were in heaven because it was all you can eat! They ate SO much meat! Me, not so much:) Below are some pictures from our evening.

GREAT NEWS!!!

So in case you don't know, I've been in school FOREVER!! And I graduate this May...May 10th to be exact, but who's keeping track, really? I have looked into a few places to work for but nothing really panned out. I had been struggling with what I want to do next year. Without going into too much detail, a part of me really felt like I needed to do a residency (postdoc work) after graduation and I had been working with a faculty member on perhaps starting an ambulatory care one for me to do. Well, I got really excited about this at first but again, this just wasn't going to work out in such short amount of time...there were some problems with funding, sites, traveling, etc and I just wasn't going to make a commitment with so much uncertainty. So, in the midst of all this, I also interviewed with Ball's Food Stores here in KC (Price Choppers) just to see what they had to offer. They are a large company here in KC but each store is more like the hometown store/corner pharmacy type. My interview went really well. We talked about their vision to start pharmacist run employee clinics for all their employees with incentives for them to attend. They are going to be covering health related topics like diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol, smoking cessation, weight loss, etc and how to manage each of these... I felt pretty good about my interview but I didn't know if I'd get it because supposedly they were interviewing a lot more people than they had spots for. A few days later, they called and offered me the position (one of three that they hired!!)!! And the best part is is that they want me to be a integral part in getting these clinics up and going and perhaps teaching some of them!!! So this is awesome!! I stopped the process on getting the residency started and I start working for Price Chopper ASAP!! I can not believe that I am finally at this point! It has been a huge struggle but I am so glad that I did it! Let's just pray that I pass my current and last rotation and that I pass Boards!!

Animal Cruelty in China

Ok, so I normally don't do this kind of thing but when it comes to the inhumane treatment of animals...I get really mad!! I have no tolerance for mistreating an animal in ANY way. One of my friends brought this issue to my attention...apparently, dog and cat fur is being used to make fur products for fashion in China and the way that they are treating and killing these animals to skin them is UNBELIEVABLE!!! My heart aches when I look into the eyes of these animals...pure desperation. All I can think about is that these domesticated animals desperately want to be someone's pet and to have someone to love. It breaks my heart! Below is a video clip of what is going on in China...be forewarned that the video is very graphic. I have been disturbed since I watched it but I couldn't not watch it...that would be ignorant and then it would be easy to say, "well, I don't know anything about it." When I know, it is against everything in my being to sit back and do nothing. If compelled to do something about this absurdity...inform yourself and email the Chinese ambassador to get legislation put in place to stop this barbaric practice!

KEITH URBAN!!!

This past Wednesday, my mom and my friend, Pam came up for the Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood concert here at the Sprint Center in KC. I have always loved Keith Urban's music so I jumped on the chance to get tickets when they became available. With all the craziness of getting off work, rushing home to meet them, rushing to get something to eat before the concert...I forgot my camera!!!! I am so upset!! I could have gotten some really great pictures....what a bummer! Besides this, it was an AMAZING concert! He is a fantastic performer/entertainer! His stage had a walkway that came off the front of it out into the crowd and then at one point he walked up into the crowd while playing his electric guitar with people shoulder to shoulder with him. Then he pulled out a black marker, signed his guitar and gave it to some girl next to him! It was so awesome! I wish we could go back and redo the whole concert so I could have my camera. I can't believe I forgot it!!!

Cozumel 2008

A few weeks ago, Jacob and I decided to take a spontaneous trip to someplace warm and sunny! I had the last 2 weeks of February off and he had some time off he could take, so it was the perfect time to get away. We left on a Wednesday and got back on Sunday...just a fun, quick trip:) Here's some pictures from our very relaxing get-away.

We got there about noon and check in wasn't until 3:00 so we had time to just walk around the resort and lay on the beach a little. It was VERY windy that day...the only sub-optimal weather we had the whole trip.

Lots of wildlife everywhere!
The resort grounds were gorgeous!Just helping the relaxation along a little bit...rainbow shots!
Just hanging out on the beach...beautiful!!
Jacob even read a book--"The Painted House" by John Grisham. He NEVER reads books!! I brought it as my beach read and then he got into it and finished it in 3 days!!

Jacob leaving on his scuba diving trip.

Amazing sunsets every night!

Dressing up for dinner at night.

We also had to take some senior pictures on the pier!

The morning before our flight home:( We wish we were still there!
